REFLEXOLOGY – THE AMAZING FOOT MASSAGE!
Reflexology has been practiced for centuries in many cultures – Egyptian, Indian, and Chinese before being introduced to North America by Dr. William Fitzgerald who called it Zone Therapy.
Dating back to 2330 B.C. the first record of Reflexology is found in an Egyptian physician’s tomb. Traces of “foot work” also appear in other cultures such as China India and Europe going back thousands of years indicating no one culture having invented it. Researchers believe that the art is well over 5,500 years old. Today’s methods are based on the work of Dr. William Fitzgerald who studied the art of “pressure therapy” in Europe and pioneered “Zone Therapy” in the U.S.A. and that of Eunice Ingham who systematized and popularized the therapy in the 1930′s. Research is ongoing proving its benefits.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Reflexology is based on the premise that there are reflex points in the hands, feet and ears corresponding via nerve pathways of the nervous system (Western Medicine) and/or meridians (Eastern Medicine) to every part, organ and gland of the body. According to the American Journal of Medicine, stress is known to cause over 80% of all disease. Reflexology reduces stress automatically during a session, causing chemical changes to occur at the cellular level throughout the body. Through systematic pressure and stimulation of these reflexes the body is assisted to return to natural balance (homeostasis). In the process, endorphins (natural pain-killers – “happy hormones”) are released, para-sympathetic relaxation of the nervous system takes place, increased blood and lymphatic circulation results in increases in Oxygen and immune levels, all of which helps to restore balance to all systems of the body.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT LIKE …..
A typical treatment is 45 minutes to 60 minutes long and begins with a consultation about your health and lifestyle.
You are then asked to remove our shoes and socks and sit comfortably in a reclining chair or lie on a massage table which is more preferable. Otherwise, you remain fully clothed. Once you are comforable, your therapist commences your session. At the end the session, lotion or an essential oil is applied to the feet. The client is offered a glass of water or juice after the treatment to help with the cleansing process that may be started during the treatment.
HOW WILL I FEEL AFTERWARD ..
Your feet will feel like “little pillows” – light and relaxed. You will feel calmer or perhaps have a sensation of having more energy. Everyone is different – some feel tired, some feel terrific! You will receive a call the next day asking how you feel so that the therapist can offer suggestions to assist you.
